My name is John and I would like to help you but need some additional information from you.

It sounds as though you are new to beekeeping but have some interest and also have the property to support them.

To be blunt, it's pretty expensive. Roughly figure $1000 for the bees, equipment, and necessities to get going. Obviously you won't need to buy everything again but even still, the stuff is expensive. Knowing your way around a table saw is helpful. And then there is the learning curve. It's not uncommon for people to begin and replace their dead colonies each spring because they die. The reason for my business and demand is always high.

Furthermore, it's more than putting them in a box and letting them do their thing. One could make a good case that honey bees are 'domesticated' now. Think buying a cow and leaving it outside to take care of itself. Bees have a pest called the varroa mite that infests their colony and weakens them making them susceptible to diseases that they would normally be capable of dealing with. But because they are in a weak state, they die.

If I haven't talked you out of it yet, let me know some additional information such as

Why do you want to keep bees?

Provide a close proximity (exactly would be better) of where you want to keep them. I have some thoughts.

Do you have somebody local to you that could help/mentor you?

And finally, your thoughts in general.

I don't post my phone number because I don't answer my phone unless I know who is calling. I would be more than happy to speak with you but I'll need to have your number as an identifier. It's up to you.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.
